Map Ocnița It's quite a straight line from 0103 until 0107.
Border marker 0103 We are now in a more crowded area here, close to the small city Ocnița. The border leaves the railway line which you see on the background and from here a Moldovan road runs along the border.

Border marker 0104 On the background the road along the border.
Border marker 0105 For this kind of visits you don't need any guidence I guess. And it's definitly not an external EU-border. The Ukrainian watchtower on the second picture is an old one from the Sovjet times. It looks well maintained and I guess it's still in operation.

Border marker 0106 This pair is located on the left of the border crossing Ocnița-Sokireani
Border marker 0106-02 Right of the border crossing there is small inspection path along the border which leads along this sub-markers. Again, between here and BM 107 there are more sub-markers.
Border marker 0106-03 ... like this one. Notice the small white stones as kind of decoration around the marker. You see that often here. The road on the other side of the border runs to the border crossing Ocnița-Sokireani
Border marker 0107 Along the same Ukrainian road.
Border marker 0108 Here it becomes interesting. BM 108 stands at a closed border crossing (Ocnița-Rozkopyntsi). On the background you still see the Ukrainain customs office. The road is blocked with concrete blocks.
Border marker 0108-01 Two pictures: the first taken from aside where you see 108-1. The second is taken from the old -closed- road, there you see the angles in the border (108-1 and 108-2). The border runs over the road and then goes to the right. The old road is Moldovan. It's a rather sad view.
Border marker 0109 The road which crossed the border is also closed on the Moldovan side. From here it's about 400 meters to the former Ukrainian customs. Igor told me that the Moldovan custom office was demolished some years ago.

Border marker 0110 Between 0109 and 0110 there are several sub-markers. Then for sudden it becomes a bit hilly and we approach the river Dnjestr. BM 110 is the last pair of border markers on this side of the river. From here the border runs to the river and then in the middle of the river. So in front you see the Dnistr as it runs through Ukrain. Compare this picture with the second picture, a part of the wall board in Edinet. Igor told me that there are also Moldovan border markers on the banks of the Dnjestr. After visiting this nice spot I brought Igor to Ocnița and I drove straight to Tiraspol for the last part of this trip. |
