Map 0771-0781 Along the villages Etulia Nouă, Cișmichioi and Giurgiulești.
Border marker 0771 THe usual situation with a long row of trees, a wall and a ditch.
Border marker 0772 A very remote part, not accessable by car. I had to walk three kilometers there and back over the fields. The last part was over fallow land. And again, it was hot.
Border marker 0773 Again a former border crossing on the road from Etulia Nouă (MD) to Nahirne (UA). The road from Etulia Nouă to the border was extremely bad. The road bends to the right to some remote houses at the lake Cahul. On Ukrainian side there is even a watch tower and it was even manned. The Border Guard noticed me but didn't take any action.
Border marker 0774 Close to Lake Cahul. From here the borders runs into the lake. I followed the border until the water but no more border markers.
Border marker 0775 Two more border markers on the bank of the Lake Cahul. It was hard to recognize them on the ortho map so I had find them myself. First I searched on an abandoned children resort but without success. The road between 0774 and 0775 was very bad, my Suzuki had to work hard. This border marker is situated on open ground about 50 meters from the water. The area south of Etulia Noua is used for recreation and -of course- fishing.
Border marker 0776 Also along the lake Cahul, close to the edge on the north where the river Cahul flows into the lake. The lake itself is connected to the river Danube.
Border marker 0777 After a long detour I reached this border marker which is ont he other side of the lake. It was not easy to reach over narrow farmer roads, a small tunnel under the rail tracks. The lost kilometers I had to walk. It is situated along the same railway line that crosses the border at BM 0757, 0760 and 0762. Now it's almost in Reni.
Border marker 0778 Local border crossing Cișmichioi - Dolyns'ke. Not much activity here. The Border Guards checked my papers and allowed me to take a picture of the border markers.
Rayonul Vulcănești An nice sign from Soviet times at the border crossing: Вулканештский район , meaning Vulcănești district.
Border marker 0779 The last part to the last border markers. Easy to reach them by following the sand road along the border.
Border marker 0780 Situated on the highest point in the area.
Border marker 0781 The last main border marker. Located on the road between Giurgiulești and Reni. Much transit freight traffic to Romania here. This is the continuation of the road M15 that runs from Odessa via the transit corridor at Palanca (BM 0609 and 0613) via Ismajil to here where it continues to Galați (RO). Many trucks along the few kilometers of this road M3 in Moldova: waiting to cross the border to Ukraine, waiting to enter the Free Port of Giurgiulești and waiting to cross the border to Romania. From here it's a few hundred meters to the Danube where the border ends in the tripoint MD-UA-RO. This last part is not accessable due to the presence of Ukrainian soldiers close to the Danube. Snoopers not welcome.

Orto map intermediate marker 0781-05 The orto map shows the last intermediate marker as a white spot. It's where both Moldovans and Ukrainians have a watch tower and some technical installations and therefore it's not accessable. On the position of the marker the border makes a little angle towards the river.

Intermediate marker 0781-05 Around Christmas 2024 I visited the Facebook page of the Politia de Frontiera. One of the posts contained a short video clip in which border guards sang a Christmas song, wishing us a Happy New Year. I was a little surprised when I saw pictures of the area of the last intermeadiate marker between Giurgiulești and the Danube river. You can clearly recognize the two watch towers, the fences and of course the small white border marker.

Towards tripoint Moldova - Ukraine - Romania From the Free Port of Giurgiulești I caught a glimpse of the last part of the border towards the tripoint in the Danube. So this was it. Back to Criva border marker 0001 >>
