Krynica Morska

This was the last part of my visit to the PL-RU border in April 2015.
I was more or less forced to leave the Bartoszyce region: after the Border Guards found me in Szczurkowo they followed me. So it made no sense to visit another part of the border in that region during the Sunday afternoon. Before driving back to Gdansk I decided to visit the peninsula Krynica Morska. Here is the very last part of the border. The peninsula is rather touristic and whealty, many Germans spend their holidays there. Lots of possibilities for watersport lovers. But now in April it was quiet and desolated.
It took me almost three hours from Bartoszyce to here.
What I was afraid of, indeed happened: the last 400 meters to the border are not accessable. There is a fence and many warning sings prevent tourists to enter the border area. Whe you point with the on the map on the right, you see until where I could go.
I didn't dare pass the fence and to enter the zone, the risk was too high that I got in deep trouble. So the only thing I could do is take some pictures along the 400 meter long straight path from the lake Zalew Wislany (frisches Haff) to the shore of the Baltic Sea.
That's apity because the map shows that there are bordermarkers on this last little part of the border. Sorry, no bordermarkers on this page now!
On Google I found a serie of pictures of these bordermarkers and a watchtower made by a guy called Stanislaw Szewczak during a visit to this border area. How did he manage that? It looks like the Polish Border Guards are not so strict in applying the rules for every one. So it's not that strict and secret what happens at the border!

After this last visit of the border area I drove back to Gdansk. I had a hotel near the airport and the next morning I flew back home to Eindhoven.

	Zalew Wislany From the little village Piaski I took a small path along the coastline in the direction of the border. The undeep water was covered with reed.
	The fence near the water The end of the footh path near the water. I had to climb up the dunes, as the fence ended up somewhere in the undeep water.
	End of the footpaths All the footpaths through the woods on the dunes end here. It's clear that it's forbidden to enter the last zone to the border.
	The path along the fence The path from the south to the north part of the island is about 400 meters long. It begins at the lake Zalew Wislany and ends at the Baltic Sea. At the right side of the fence you see the 'tracks' and traces of the Landrovers of the Border Guards.
	Gate with barrier One of the two barriers in the fence. There is a big shield warning tourists not to cross the border here. In fact, I was thinking if I would be punsihed when I enter this area but not cross the border. I didn't want to take the risk to challenge the Border Gurards.

	The top of the dunes I am almost at the end of the border. Here on the dunes the fence continues. No footsteps on the right side of the fence. It's a kind of a nomansland.
	Baltic Sea beach The end of the border. The fence continues some meters in the sea. The message however is clear: don't cross the fence! There is again a warning shield to prevent tourists to cross the border.
	Borderzone with watchtower From the beach I could take a last picture with my telelens. A shed, a post with cameras and a watchtower.
	Gdansk sunset One of the last pictures of this trip: I reached Gdansk by sunset. The end of my bordertrip. The next morning I flew back to Eindhoven without any problem. The border Guards will have been glad that I left the area!
