Border marker 441
On this cold April morning still facing the snow. It's wet everywhere. The border makes an angle here.
The border runs over a kind of creek.

Between border marker 441 and 442
For sudden the terrain goes up. This wall looks a bit artificial, but I don't think it is.
There is a nice bridge over the creek and a starway so the Border Guards don't have to get wet feet or climb fo their inspections.

Once you're up, there is a shelter for Border Guards, perhaps in case of rain or snow.
From here it goes down a bit.

From here it's a straight line to the road that crosses Saatse Boot.
We were struggling the path, it's bad, wet a swampy.

Border marker 447
About 100 meters from the road. It's foreseen that the border will change here to
avoid crossing Russian territory in Estonia. The road between Värska and Saatse would then become Estonian.
So the Estonians wait for erecting border markers here until the exchange of land is official.

|
Border marker 448
When you approach Saatse Boot by the road you are confronted with warning signs.
The big yellow sign is quite new: it tells you in Estonian, English and Russian that you are entering Russian territory and that it's forbidden
for pedestrians and that it's forbidden to stop. I ask myself if this also applies for Russians: they are in their own country...

The russian pole close to the road, fresh painted.
Still some snow and much of water...

In July 2017 it looks a bit more friendly and green.

Border marker 449
Entering Saatse Boot now. No Estonian markers. This area is expected to be exchanged to Estonia. No one knows when.
|
|
Border marker 450
There is not much activity in Saatse Boot. When you look at air pictures, you see wood, one medow and one shed.
I wonder who is farming here.
