Map 539-550
Starting in Vasknarva and follow the Narvan river up to the north.

Border marker 539
April 2022
Here we are in Varsknarva, 110 km. in a straight line (and 125 km. following the official border in the water) north of BM 538.
From here the border runs through the river Narva which ends north of the city of Narva in the Gulf of Finland.
This border marker is situated where the river starts. Close to a watch tower and close to the "Vasknarva õigeusu kirik" monastir.

Border marker 540
In the village on an open space between some houses on the main road.
My telephoto lens reached the red-green border marker on the other bank of the river.
Border marker 541
Close to 540.
Located behind the office of the Vasknarva kordon. A narrow path between the backyards of the houses leads to this border marker.
The spot is surrounded by cameras.
The people working here protect our EU border, a very honorable task.
Border marker 542
Between the river and the backyards of the houses in Vasknarva there is a very small island. The border marker is situated there.
Border marker 542-2
A huge flag on the other side of the river reminds the inhabitants in this small village of the neighboring terroristic regime.
Border marker 543
Close to the ruin 'Zamok Vasknarva', a ruin which is visited by tourists. On internet you find some pictures of this border marker with
visitors of the ruin.
This BM is only 50 meters removed from 542. The reason for that lies on the other bank of the Narva: the river Vtroia is flooding into the Narva.
Both sides of the Vtroia are covered with a border marker.
Border marker 544
North of the small village. Situated on the the site of a small fishing company.
Border marker 545
A small but muddy path out of the village of Vasknarva runs along the Narva. This border marker is situated on a small island. I couldn't reach it but
my telephoto lens brought it close enough.
I was here in April 2022 and on some spots there was still some snow.
Border marker 546
Again in the fields.
Border marker 547
I think in summer these wetlands are used as meadows.
Border marker 548
On the Narva there is some traffic of small fishing boats. They have to stay on 'their' side of the middle of the river.
On the other side of the river big brother is watching you.
Wetlands
An impression of the area. The home of many birds. I got wet feet many times.
Border marker 549
Again on a small island, so again a job for the telephoto lens. Through the high reed you can recognize '549'.
Here the first hike ends. The Jaama river floods in the Narva so for the next border marker I had to return and approach
it from a different position.
Border marker 550
I only could reach the border markers 550 - 554 via wetlands near the small village Jaama.
Again wet feet of course...
