Map 71-86
A good overview of Luhamaa Piiripunkt. On the left side the Estonian customs, at the right side the Russian customs. In between a
kind of 'no ones land' where you formally left the one country but didn't enter the other country yet. This connecting road is fenced.
It's funny that where you can cross the border there are fences and on most places where you are not allowed to cross the border there is open
space...

Border marker 71
The closer to the border crossing, the more the border is protected. On the Russian side cameras and lights.

|
Border marker 72
Again water. The inspection path on the Estonian side makes a detour.
|
|
Border marker 72
Even a small watch tower on the Russian side. One of the few.
|
|
Border marker 73
At the end of the water.
|
|
Border marker 74
The path along the border runs over this small hill.
|
|
Border marker 75
Again a bit closer. The border is covered by a strip of wood chips.
|
|
Border marker 76
Again the path is about 15 meters from the border.
|
|
Border marker 77
Quite close to the Russian custom area now. You can see the buildings already and if you look carefully you can recognize the Russian flag on the
left of the buildings.

Border markers 78
I almost reach the road. Here the border is marked with an Estonian border marker as well.
I don't feel comfortable at such places. Although I have the permission to be here, I'm always a bit scared that some custom officer sees
me and starts making troubles. Which usually causes a delay of at least one hour.
Here the trip for today stops. Because where you can cross the border, you cannot cross the road.
On the background you can see BM 79 and the cars waiting for the formalities to enter Russia.

|
Border marker 79
I didn't dare to approach BM 79 from the south although I could. So I made this picture from the north with two fences between me and the Russian
border marker.

Border markers 80
Also here I didn't risk to get closer to the road and the fences although I was allowed to do so. But again I didn't want to cause any panic or confusion.
I took this picture from a safe position. Notice the two copies.

Border markers 80
A close up with my zoom lense. You see one of the many cameras in which I thought it was safer not to appear.
Maybe I go closer to BM 80 and 81 in Summer 2017 but then I first want to consult the Luhamaa Cordon.
