Map 0711-0720 A concentration of bordermarkers between Iserlia (MD) and Petrivsk (UA) and then south towards Basarabeasca.
Border marker 0711 The road between Iserlia (MD) and Petrivsk (UA) ends in front of the border. The last 100 meters are not recognisable as road. In the earlier days the road connected the two small villages.
Border marker 0711 extra The village Petrivsk is really close to the border. Only a minor fence with bared wire separates the few habitants from Moldova.
Border marker 0712 The distance from 0711 to 0712 is hardly 50 meters.
Border marker 0713 Just outside the small village the border makes again an angle.
Railroad crossing at 0714 Close to BM 0714 the railway line crosses the border. It's the railway line from Basarabeasca to Chișinău and Bender/Tiraspol and it runs only for about 10 kilometers through Ukraine. Just when I was here I saw a quad in hurry coming my way. Two border guards on it. When they reached me they were very exited. I think they thought they caught a very big fish. But when they saw my permits, they looked a bit disappointed. Nevertheless, it saved them and me a lot of hassle.

Border marker 0714 Close to the railroad. This marker must be placed to indicate the border in relation to the railroad: the border doesn't make any angle here.
Border marker 0715 I reached 0715 and 0716 from the main road between Cimişlia and Basarabeasca. After all I had to walk almost 20 minutes from the car to BM 0715 as there was no road that was suitable for my car. Better safe than sorry!

Border marker 0716 Open field on Ukrainian side with a wide view on the fields.
Border marker 0717 This one and the next one I missed. Before my expedition I didn't know where the markers were situated, I don't have a map showing the position of the markers. The only source is an ortomap (one of the best I have ever seen) on which you can recognize some border markers if they are in open field. So these I missed which I noticed when I reached 0719 and not 0717. That was an unpleasant discovery.
Border marker 0718 Same as 0717. Not recognized on the ortomap. I had no time to find these when I reached 0719. It was already late in the afternoon and I wanted to do the border markers around Basarabeasca before it became dark.
Border marker 0719 This one I did find on the orto map. There is a long straight sand road along the border here, which also leads to Basarabeasca.
Border marker 0720 At the entrance of the border village Basarabeasca. Situated close to the former military unit no. 7480 of the internal forces of the USSR. The complex however is very dilapidated. The border makes an angle here to the east (on the picture to the left) but until 1991 when Ukraine and Moldova were part of the Sovjet Union the border followed the road and ran in the middle of Basarabeasca. The new strange and short angles are around a workplace for locomotives and other rolling stock which became Moldovan after 1991. It's the start of an interesting part of the border. More details on the next page. |
