Map 0681-0690 South of Ucrainca up the hillocks and then down and through the lake back north.

Border marker 0681 This was the first border marker I visited during this trip. From Chișinău I drove down to here: it's not so far and so I would have already a prodcutive late afternoon. A agricultural environment, wheat, corn, sunflowers everywhere.
Border marker 0682 Only some hundreds of meters from BM0681. I could walk along the edge of a sunflower field to reach it.
Border marker 0683 Fields with corn on Moldovan side. On Ukrainian side some small forrest and an inspection road. The Moldovan Border Guard guided me to here and also to the next border markers.
Border marker 0684 The border runs here for about 100 meters along an Ukrainian local road. Here illegal border crossing is prevented by digging a deep ditch and building a wall. They look like a anti-tank ditches. We see this now on more spots, especially places which are easy accessable.
Border marker 0684 extra A look at the fence, the ditch and the wall along the road at the small village Yevhenivka (UA).
Border marker 0685 Along the same road where there is some traffic as you see. Here the border turns back to the hillock.
Border marker 0686 Back in the direction of Ucrainca. Here is a lake which is part of the Chaha river. These markers are situated on the edge of the lake. On the right you see already the reed. In the river, the border makes an angle to the west.
Lake Nice view almost at sunset from the hills south of Ucrainca on the lake in the Chaha river and on the fields which surround Ucrainca.
Border marker 0686 noth of the lake The border makes a 90 degrees angle in the lake. So north of the lake there is a second bordermarker 0686. Same concept as for example BM 0065. This marker is located about 50 meters on the bank.
Border marker 0687 The border makes two angles in the water which are covered by border markers. This one on the Moldovan side between the water and the fields.
Border marker 0688 This second one which covers the second angle.
Border marker 0689 The border leaves the lake here. On the left you see high water plants in the lake, or maybe the swamp. I guess on the Ukrainian side there will be a second BM 0689.

Border marker 0690 Now comes a trickey story: on my way to BM 0690 I had to go into a forest. According the map there were some narrow roads in the forest. Unfortunately the road I took was very bad and my car got stuck. The traces were too deep. I couldn't move forward, nor backward. What to do now? I was desperate and called the border guard to whom I spoke the day before. She answered the phone, she was on duty and after hearing my problem she promised to send some colleagues who arrived about one hour later. The border guard heroes helped me out: by using a car jack they got my car move again. I was so glad. For them I guess it was a nice varity in their job. In April 2024 I returned to this place to see 0690 and 0691. Now I avoided the road in the forest. |
